Preparing the Assignment

You will be provided either a question about prescription writing or a scenario for you to provide prescription information.  You will receive feedback at the end of the quiz.

Types of Questions:

Questions will include:

  • Fill in the blank questions to complete similar to completing a prescription in an electronic health record (EHR).
  • Dosage and calculation questions about the process of and actual calculation of medication dosage to be able to prescribe the correct amount. This is information you should know from previous nursing education as well as your professional practice as a registered nurse, so this information is not in your textbook.
  • You will be asked to prescribe a medication for conditions not covered in this week’s readings. You can use the resources listed or do a search of your textbook to locate what medication you should order.  The purpose of this is to introduce you to using various clinical tools you may choose to use in clinical practice.

Resources

In your textbook, there are several websites listed in Chapter 2 as assistance.  Those resources along with some others are listed here with some additional information to guide you in selecting which you would like to use. You are not required to purchase any subscriptions or memberships to any resource listed. These are listed and provided to help familiarize you with available resources for your own professional clinical practice as a nurse practitioner. These sites will help you answer these questions and see how the process works in clinical practice.  You are strongly encouraged to use resources to help you answer the questions in this assignment.

Grades

Canvas will attempt to grade your answers.  Please be aware that the score you will receive upon completing the exam will most likely change after your instructor has had a chance to review and manually adjust points as appropriate.  For example, if the answer to a question is 75mg and you type 75 mg or vice versa, Canvas will most likely count it as incorrect.  It is not wrong, and your instructor will review and provide those points back to you.  Please allow time for these adjustments to be made before contacting your instructor.
