NU643 ADVANCED PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY

CYP2D6 is an enzyme in humans that is encoded by the CYP2D6 gene. It is basically expressed in the liver and also highly expressed in the central nervous system, encompassing the substantia nigra. CYP2D6 is predominantly known for its incapacity to be influenced by xenobiotic exposure, which are chemical compounds which are not naturally present in the body, including food additives, pharmaceutics, and environmental pollutants (Storelli et al., 2019). The enzyme is affected by genetic variability, where some people are naturally CYP2D6 deficient, whereas other have normal CYP2D6 activity while others still have escalated activity.
